2008 2008 Ghost Block Single Vineyard (Yountville) Cabernet Sauvignon 92 Points Antonio Galloni
2008 Cabernet Sauvignon
When we met with Morgaen Hoxsey (a 5th generation member of the famed Pelissa winemaking family) in mid-January, she immediately made one thing clear - "just so you know, I'm happy to meet with you guys, but I don't have any Ghost Block for you." This was disappointing, but expected. Ghost Block is heavily allocated and has a cult-like following among Cabernet lovers; they certainly don't need our help with moving a wine that quickly sells out every year.
But shortly after that meeting, which included a tour of the Pelissa family vineyards, we received a message from Morgaen. She liked what we are doing here at Wine Confidential and wanted to throw us a bone - maybe, just maybe, she can dig up a few cases of a library vintage for us.
And this was completely unexpected - a small allocation of Ghost Block's single vineyard 2008 Cabernet from the family's famed Yountville vineyard.
RATINGS & REVIEWS
92 Points, Antonio Galloni Tobacco, sweet herbs, cassis and plums are some of the notes that flow from this beautifully delineated, striking Cabernet Sauvignon. I especially like the length and pure finesse of the finish. This is a strong showing from Ghost Block. -Antonio Galloni, December 2011
90 Points, Robert Parker The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Single Vineyard come across as quite dark and fleshy in its blackberries, plums, licorice tobacco and spices. It shows excellent depth through to the generous, textured finish. The 2008 is already a bit forward in its aromas and flavors, suggesting it needs to be enjoyed sooner rather than later. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020. - Robert Parker, December 2011
