2006 2006 Ghost Block Cabernet Sauvignon (Library Release) 94pts Wine Enthusiast
2006 Cabernet Sauvignon
When we met with Morgaen Hoxsey (a 5th generation member of the famed Pelissa winemaking family) in mid-January, she immediately made one thing clear - "just so you know, I'm happy to meet with you guys, but I don't have any Ghost Block for you." This was disappointing, but expected. Ghost Block is heavily allocated and has a cult-like following among Cabernet lovers; they certainly don't need our help with moving a wine that quickly sells out every year.
But shortly after that meeting, which included a tour of the Pelissa family vineyards, we received a message from Morgaen. She liked what we are doing here at Wine Confidential and wanted to throw us a bone - maybe, just maybe, she can dig up a few cases of a library vintage for us.
So it was time for our Hail Mary pass. We didn't just ask for a recent library release, we asked for an allocation of 10 year old Ghost Block Estate Cabernet. And Morgaen said YES! Keep in mind that this library release of Ghost Block comes straight from the winery, and is a wine that Robert Parker called "impressive" and "ripe with elegance."
RATINGS & REVIEWS
94pts Wine Enthusiast "Quite a beautiful Cabernet, showing Oakville character of black currants and cedar and profoundly fine tannins, as well as a great depth of flavor and ageworthiness. Made from 100% Cabernet, it’s lush and dramatic now, and should easily develop over the next 6–10 years."
91pts Robert Parker Better balanced is the impressive 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by plenty of creme de cassis, charcoal, roasted herb, and licorice notes. Medium to full-bodied and ripe with elegance, substance, and well-integrated tannins, it should drink well for 15-20 years. - Robert Parker, December 2009
